The Devil wears Prada... and well, I went ga-ga... my galoshes...

Well, I loved the movie ‘The Devil wears Prada’. I got to see Anne Hathaway, for one. One of the very few actresses that make me fly high as kite... like the ‘Pehla Nasha’ song types. OK, I’m exaggerating! And, of course, Meryl Streep who plays every role that she accepts to perfection and who looked no less better in her heyday.

I’m no showboat, rather a modest fellow who works his tush off and am pretty happy to wear ‘relaxed’ clothes. I use the euphemism ‘relaxed’, because honestly, I’m not as slick and trendy like some of young boys [read: metrosexual] that we have running around and showing up on a Titan ‘Fastrack’ ad with the women saying: How many you have, man?

And I’m fine with it. I’m not down with it, you see... dressing like one of the yuppies...Haha!

As I’d rather burn in hell than wear some of those trailblazing “costumes” that have the ability make more than a fashion statement in one display... like the Ferrari reds, canary yellows and so on and so forth coupled with the gawdy hairdos and accessories... but alas, that has all changed now...

The world has its fair share of bigotry, racism, sexism, you name it… and we all indulge in it, in varying degrees. We love to cynically invalidate the shallow behavior of the fashion industry, yet secretly wish we were in the thick of the ‘action’.

Hell, they seem to be the kinds who are having the most fun! Or at least it seems that way on the outside… but do we really take the time to see what lies beneath. [No pun intended here]

Why? I think not.

First off, I’ll admit I’ve been there myself... all cynical and s***. Anne Hathaway, too, as in the character that she depicts in the movie.

So, are the ‘beautiful people’ really shallow? Vain, maybe?

Yes, and for good reasons too.

I think that you can learn a lot about presentation from these folks at ‘Gladrags’, which can make up for a whole lot of ‘natural stupidity’ that the fashion industry has gotten a bad rap for, I’ll give you that!

I recently met one of them, and while perusing through a photo shoot of hers in a bikini, I felt like I was wading through my earliest memories of the Calcutta heat [pun intended ha ha]

Take another example: Jessica Biel...sweet Mama!

I wonder who even bothers calling her ’stupid’. That’s the last thing on anyone’s mind while she’s around. More like: Oh God! It’s Jessssssica! [slurp]

And trust me, when you look at it a little closely, these are actually the ’smart’ folk… they’re raking in the ‘moolah’ and having fun while they’re at it... and they sure know how to make a ‘first impression’... which is a winner in today’s fast-paced world.

Which is what the movie emphasized, that perhaps, beauty is not necessarily skin-deep! God has given you looks... so use it for your pleasure. Hell, it’s your life! For if beauty was skin-deep, I’d be in love with a woman because of that well-shaped pancreas she has... Haha!

I admit that the fashion industry can get a bit shallow... but hell, which industry or its stalwarts don’t!

Debauchery, lust, greed and addiction is everywhere! And it’s one hell of a ride with all these perks which make themselves available in no time, especially when you’re the next big thing.

The only caveat is that people who get on this ride, don’t know when to get off, much like the character that was played by Meryl Streep in the movie. I, for one, would go the Anne Hath-a-Way.

Good looks with brains, of course! And well-groomed for life too... ;)

How realistic and honest you are when you say: ”The world has its fair share of bigotry, racism, sexism, you name it… and we all indulge in it, in varying degrees. We love to cynically invalidate the shallow behavior of the fashion industry, yet secretly wish we were in the thick of the ‘action’.” In fact, the writ of hypocrisy runs large in this world where the leader, in every field, belive in the dictum ”Do as I say not as I do”.
